The Gateway Bass ‘n Gals started out their 2019 tournament season at Table Rock Lake, on April 13 and 14th.
The weather made it very challenging, especially on Sunday but luckily this group of ladies are not only tough, but are also a determined and dedicated group of female anglers. As one angler stated, “We are like the US Mail…no rain, wind, sleet or hail (or in our case snow) will keep us from the glory of hooking that Big Bass.”
Pictured here is Leslie Anderson (who also fishes with the Women’s Pro Circuit, the Lady Bass Anglers Association). On the first day she weighed in 1 fish at 1.92 lbs. On the second day she had 3 keepers that came in at 6.28 lbs. and also claimed big bass on day two which weighed 2.44 lbs. Leslie’s total weight for both days was 8.20 lbs.
Lynda Gessner (who also fishes on the Women’s Pro Circuit) had two keepers on the 1st day at 3.41 lbs but only had 1 keeper on day two. Her total weight for the tournament was 5.32 lbs.
Karen Menger weight in one bass on the first day at 2.22 lbs which also happened to be Big Bass for the first day of the tournament.
Cuban Weathers-Curcuru weighted in one fish on day 2 at 2.11 lbs.
The weather may have been challenging, but the food was awesome and the camaraderie was the best part. We would like to thank Bonnie, Brenda and Alissa for braving the cold and being a part of our first 2019 Bass ‘n Gals Tournament.
Results: 1st place – Leslie Anderson
2nd place – Lynda Gessner
3rd place – Karen Menger

We hope every one has a happy Thanksgiving and a Blessed Christmas.
Temperatures were definitely HOT, but so was the fishing! We had a total of ten dedicated lady anglers, in six boats, on the water dark and early, in order to beat the heat and put a few fish in the live well.
Day 1 of the tournament resulted in a total of 20 beautiful bass being brought to the scale for check-in. Seven of our 10 competitors caught fish. The total weight for Saturday was 30.17 pounds with Big Bass going to Sarah Butler. Congrats Sarah on your 2.69 pound fish.
Day 2 was a little tougher but they took it in stride. Sunday afternoon found 12 fish at the scale, caught by seven ladies again. On this day, three new ladies brought in fish that had been shut out on Saturday. Better late than never girls!! *wink* Although down slightly in weight, we still had a total of 24.69 pounds of bass to be weighed. Shout out to Robbie Hartline for your 3.32 bass to win Big Bass on Sunday!
Top 3 finishers for Bull Shoals tournament are:
#1 – Lynda Gessner with 12.71 lbs
#2 – Mickie Wolfenbarger with 9.15 lbs
#3 – Danalee Lofton with 7.71 lbs
Honorable mentions for 4th place going to Robbie Hartline and 5th place going to Leslie Anderson. It is always nice to share the cash, so better luck next time!
All but one lady managed to catch at least one keeper to bring to weigh… Even in the heat! You know they are dedicated. Way to stick with it! No doubt, we will work on that because we want a PERFECT record when it comes to EVERY angler bringing in a fish to weigh. All in all, we put another successful tournament in the books for our little Gateway Bass ‘N Gals club. Thanks to all who participated and assisted in making it happen. We appreciate all the hard work!
We especially missed all of our members who were not able to make it to this event. We sure hope to see you at the next one!
Now we can start looking forward to our annual BUDDY TOURNAMENT being held at Table Rock Lake in September! Spread the word!!! This is our only open tournament for the year so we hope to see a crowd show up to compete and have fun!
And for the club ladies, updated standings are coming (in case you wonder where you fall in the points for the year so far).
We wanted to invite all of you to come join us at our Gateway Bass ‘n Gals 15th annual Buddy Tournament!

With the New Year roaring in with lots of cold weather, I am positive all the ladies are looking forward to warmer weather and getting a line wet!
The Gateway Bass ‘n Gals held their 2017 Awards Banquet on January 3rd at Big A’s restaurant located on Main Street in St. Charles, MO. Every year we honor members in our club who were most successful fishing our tournaments the previous year. We also recognize one member for her outstanding participation in club activities.
Leslie Anderson, pictured here, took Angler of the Year. Not only does Leslie fish all of the Gateway Bass ‘n Gals tournament, but she also fishes with the Lady Bass Angler’s Association, the premier women’s pro bass tour.
Bonnie Katke, the club’s esteemed treasurer, took Bass ‘n Gal of the Year.
Karen Menger took third place and Kristen Harper, the club’s tournament director (in the middle) took fourth place.
Sarah Butler came in fifth place.
The Rookie of the Year was Lulu Kaonohi. When Lulu first joined the club she owned a Jon boat which she and her father had completely redone. After fishing the club tournaments, she decided to invest in a fiberglass boat and now has a Stratos bass boat powered by a 115hp motor.
The great thing is we are all women who LOVE to fish and we encourage others who like to fish. We are looking for a few new club members who, not only like to fish, want to have fun. Even if you are new to bass fishing, we will help you with every aspect from what line to use to picking out tackle. You’ll fit right in, no matter what your experience is.
We hold our club meetings at 7:00 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month at Rookie’s Bar & Grill located at 3721 New Town Blvd., St. Charles, MO 63301. Come early and enjoy some good food!!!
