The Gateway Bass ‘n Gals held their 10th annual mouse racing fund raiser on Saturday, February 27th at the Harvester Lion’s Club. The 200 racing programs printed by Xact Data Discovery, disappeared rather quickly – within an hour of opening the doors for racing enthusiasts, we were out — a first for the club but definitely a good sign. The ladies had to rush to get all the raffle items set up — there were 62 items this year! Not only do we set them out so they can be seen but we also identify the person or company who donated each item. Here’s a preview of some of the raffle items:
Folks quickly changed out their real money for lots of play money to bet on the upcoming races and purchase raffle tickets. We sold tickets for a fully loaded tackle bag and all of the raffle items. Drum roll please. . . . . the winner of the tackle bag is. . . .Tom Weber, congratulations Tom!
Gateway Downs has been handling the club’s mouse races since we first starting having them back in 2006. They do an excellent job of bringing in everything, including the 4 legged racers. We can’t have any racing injuries on the track, so different mice are used for the first 6 races. The first place finishers from these races have a race off (or is that a mouse off) in race 7. Whoever bets on the winning mouse in race 7 wins and whoever “owns” the mice that finished 1st, 2nd & 3rd also get a payout.
Throughout the event we were hearing from folks what a good time they were having. Some even called the next day to say our mouse races were the best ever!
Looks like everyone is having a great time.
Here’s a happy couple!
The Lion’s Club was packed!!!
Club decided to try out this new game, it was a hit!!
We had ladies working the money exchange, where you change out real money for play money (and, at the end of the night, can cash in your play money for real money) and several walking around selling tickets for the raffle items.
Thanks to Kristen Harper, who took the time to figure out all the ins/outs, we were able to auction off a firearm donated by Liberty Arms. Kristen put this all together and sold tickets throughout the evening. Here’s the winner:
Without everyone’s support, it would not have been possible. Thanks to all who bought ads in the program and donated raffle items and a big thank you to all of those who attended. You helped make this the most successful mouse race the club has had. This success helps us support worthy causes like the annual Veterans Fishing Day at Busch Wildlife, Paralyzed Veterans of American (PVA) and Casting for Recovery, just to name a few. Our club holds this fund raiser every year on the last Saturday in February. Come on down, see what all the fun is about. Look forward to seeing you next year!
