1st Tournament of the Season at Lake of the Ozarks

Fishing was tough for the first tournament of the year at Lake of the Ozarks.  Tournament was held on March 22nd.  Take off and weigh was at Alhonna Resort.  For those who are looking for a great place to stay, take a look at Alhonna’s website – our club highly recommends this resort.  Depending on where you were on the lake, water temp was between 43 and 50 degrees and water was clear in some areas and stained in others.

IMG_2657Leslie Anderson was captain of Boat #1 and she had Sarah Butler and Jolene Scherder as first mates.  Sarah (who got hooked by a crank bait) and Jolene (who was showing everyone her engagement ring she just got) just joined the club and will be fishing as rookies this year.  Leslie weighed in 1 fish at 2.3 lbs., caught on a jerk bait, and took first place and big bass.

IMG_2658Karen Menger was captain of Boat #2 and Kristen Harper was her first mate.  Karen also just joined the club and is fishing as a rookie this year.  These two ladies caught a drum during prefish.  They had fun learning how to ride waves and starting Karen’s boat motor together.   Kristen said they had lots of trying new baits, lots of talking and had had fun even without the fish.

IMG_2655Lynda Gessner was captain of Boat #3 and had Holly Heinlein and Robbie Hartline as first mates.  Lynda also helped Sarah with her crank bait-stuck-in-the-finger situation and did a great job removing it.  Robbie did catch a keeper in practice and several short fish on a green/brown jig and a jerk bait.  Robbie said all of my fish came from the Gravois and the key was secondary points with shad on the warmer protected north banks.

Bonnie Katke was captain of Boat #4 and had Lydia Wilson as a first mate.  Lydia also just joined the club and will be fishing as a rookie.

Overall the bite was almost non-existent. The water temp varied from 45-52 degrees depending on how protected the area was. It seemed that the fish were still out on the main lake for the most part.  However, the weather was gorgeous for the ladies and everyone had a great time!!

2015 Tackle Bag Winner

2015 rackle bag winner  The lucky winner of this year’s fully loaded tackle bag was Bill Lacy.  Unfortunately for Mr. Lacy, he wasn’t home when Lynda Gessner made the delivery.  However, Mrs. Lacy was more than happy to accept in his absence.  The big question is whether Mr. Lacy will ever see any of the tackle. . . . .

These mice were hardy folks!!!! Not even the predicted weather kept the 9th annual mouse races, hosted by the Gateway Bass ‘n Gals, from happening. While there was only about 1/3 the usual crowd (remember, races were held Feb. 28th — yeah, that evening we got a lot of snow), everyone had a good time and the betting was unstoppable. A big shout of thanks goes out to Gateway Downs for bringing all of the racers safely to the Harvester Lions Club (although I swear I saw a couple with little tiny sweaters on. . .).

A good time was had by all.  In fact, all of the ladies with the club were kept pretty busy so there wasn’t much opportunity for picture taking.  There were a couple of pics taken and I will post them soon.

We would like to invite everyone to next year’s mouse races — usually held the last Saturday in February.  Mark those calendars!!!!
