The Club’s 2nd tournament of 2014 was held at Table Rock Lake on April 12th & 13th. Kimberling Oaks Resort provided the accommodations. The weather, once again, didn’t cooperate very well and bites were few and far between.
Kristen Harper was paired with Robbie Hartline. These ladies caught their fish on PBJ jigs and centipedes in watermelon candy on a split shot rig. While fish were caught on both days, fishing was pretty tough. They were able to find water between 58 and 60 degrees. On the second day the water had just a little bit of color. Robbie caught 1 keeper on day one which turned out to be big bass for the day, and 2 keepers on day two. Kristen caught all 3 of her keepers on day two (which are pictured here). Kristen finished second overall and Robbie finished third.
Mary Lipka was paired with Lynda Gessner and Lynda was able to find stained water up river with water temps between 58 and 60 degrees. Lynda got bit on green pumpkin fish doctor and spinner baits in 4-10 feet of water. Lynda caught two keepers on each day. She took big bass for day two & finished in first place overall.
Leslie Anderson reports that prefishing was like exploring – it was all about finding water with some color. She caught shorts on day 1 using a Wiggle Wart and Alabama Rig rigged with grubs and spinners. She got no bites on day 2 and while the front might have had something to do with that, most likely because she didn’t down size the line and baits enough.
Holly Heinlein was paired with Lisa Opfer and while Lisa was able to catch a nice keeper during prefish, she was unable to duplicate that during the tournament. Neither lady got a bite on Saturday, although Holly did have a nice keeper follow her bait right up to the boat. Lisa got a really nice hit on Sunday, got really excited and kept hollering at Holly to get the net – unfortunately Lisa got so excited about getting bit she neglected to set the hook . . . . she’s still shaking her head over that one. Good news is that during prefish, Lisa was able to figure out her new Humminbird 698ci HD SI combo that was installed several weeks back. . . . look out fish!!
From the reports gathered, finding water with temps in the high 50s to 60 degrees was a big factor in whether or not any of the competitors found fish. While there wasn’t a lot of fish weighed in, fun was had by all. And let’s face it, a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work . . .
1st – Lynda Gessner – 9.59 lbs (big bass day 2 – 3.02 lbs)
2nd – Kristen Harper – 5.89 lbs3rd – Robbie Hartline – 5.74 lbs (big bass day 1 – 2.18 lbs)
